On Thursday March 20, which is also today. I came to school early to do my blog because 5pm is the deadline for the online blog and later i have something on, i am afraid i cannot finish it on time. I am now doing the last post in the blog. Ya, i forgot to talk about the videos i watched yesterday. There were two videos i watched yesterday that gave me an deep impression. The first video was done by Lionel's group. What i am impressed about their video was the graphics and music they used in the video. I think it was very good.
The second video was Raj's group. The way they make the video was fantastic man! The way they do the video is like those Hollywood movies. The combination of 2D and 3D animation was perfect and excellent. I also liked their way of doing the video and credits. After the presentation ends, Sholleh shown our video to other people and asked for critic. They said that our introduction was nice but the second part of the introduction was not good. They said it was too fast and they felt dizzy after watching it. After the critic, we all left to do our own things and this module Moving Images Project 1 ENDS!

Presentation Day Day 30
On Wednesday March 19, was our presentation and submission day for the video. My group and i came early in the morning to continue doing our video. We still left some parts need to edit and we had to merge the animation with the video. Sholleh continued doing editing, Betty continued doing the credits, Hanis do the animation of the characters. She had to merge the animation with the video. Then, Laurie came and helped Hanis to do the animation. I helped Sholleh to see the video if there is any problems.
Hanis told me that initially she thought that doing the animation and merging them with the video will take a long time, but she said it was quite easy and she finished it quite fast. As time goes by, the time for presentation was near and our video was still uncomplete. Everyone started to get panic, trying to finsh the video on time. Around 12.30pm, Wahida came to the lab to rush us down to the LT for presentation, but we were still waiting for the video to render. Then, she came and told us by 1pm all of us must go down to the LT. If not, we will fail.
My group and i started to get more panic because we haven save the video in the tape and we don't have a camera with us. Betty told me she managed to borrow a camera from her friend and i went to level 5 to get from her friend. After i got the camera, the video was still rendering, so we lend the camera to another group to use first. It was going to be 1pm and we haven saved our video in the tape. After rendering, it was about 1pm, so we thought of saving the video in two ways and see which one is faster. We saved it in the tape and in a dvd disc.
Ronald came to called us go down and Betty brought her laptop down to the LT while waiting for the video to be saved in the disc. Problems Day Day 29
On Tuesday March 18, my group met problems while we were doing project 1. The first problem was last night Hanis wanted to do the colourings for the characters, but her computer got problem. She couldn't opened the flash files and end up Laurie had to do all the colourings by herself. Hanis came to the 3D Lab early to do the animation for the video. She first do the animation of the theme "Seeds of Aspiration" and she had the problem of merging the animation of the theme with the video. But she managed to solve it in the end. While she was doing the animation, i was resizing the photos of MOI students and lecturer with photoshop.
I stopped doing my work for a while and followed Hanis to one of the 3-10 classrooms to do audio recording for the video. Sholleh and Betty also joined us after i have finished with my recording. After the recording had finished, we had a break and ate cup noodles.
After eating, we continued to do the video. But problem happened again. Sholleh accidentally delete the timeline and we can't reopen it. All of us started to get worried. If we can't reopen the timeline, our work would be gone. But luckily, we got Peng to come down to help us and he managed to reopen the timeline. We are so grateful to him, Peng you are the best man! Then, Hanis and i went back home. Sholleh stayed back to do a bit more of editing....

Animation & Video Day 28
On Monday March 17, we continued to do the editing and Laurie continued to do the animation. Sholleh asked me to looked for another piece of music to match with the introduction of each of us doing things in fast moving motion. I went to the same website freeplaymusic.com to search for the music. This time i searched for music that are aggressive feel, upbeat and rhythmic. The music piece i found called 'Punk Life'.
After Laurie finished the animation, Hanis save the animation in her harddrive so she can coloured them. Laurie also did some colour pallettes for the characters to make things easier for Hanis.

Discussion on Animation
On Friday March 14, we discussed about the animation for the video and we decided to make some changes to it. Laurie drew chibi characters to represent each of us. The character will appear during the starting of our own interview to introduce ourselves to the audience. An example on how the character introduces us is the character will push a whiteboard in with the person name on it when they appear. The only thing we didn't changed was the animating of the theme "Seeds of Aspiration". Laurie will do the drawing and animating the characters, while Hanis will do the colourings for the characters.
Editing days Day 25-27
From Tuesday March 11 to Thursday March 13, we continued with the editing of the video. So far everything went well. Sholleh continued doing the editing and he told me to go find music for the video. I went to the website freeplaymusic.com to search for instrumental music. For the next few hours, i just sat in front of the computer and listened to different pieces of music. I looked into different ranges of music like upbeat feel, inspired feel, motivational feel and others.
After that, i came out with a list of 12 instrumentals music. I asked my group members to listen to each of them and wrote down their views of the music for our video. Lastly, all of us chose the music called 'Clearing A'. But Sholleh said some parts of the music doesn't fit the video. So he edited the music and loop it inside the video. I myself do like the music too, it gives me a Irish feeling....

End of Shooting Day 24
On Monday March 10, we finally finished our shooting of the introduction and the ending. The shooting went well and Laurie was also starting to recover. For the introduction, we took shots of us doing different poses and all of us had a lot of fun during the shooting. After that, we started with our editing of the introduction and ending.
I really hope that we can finished our editing on time so that we have the time to do the animation....

Shooting at Ampitheatre
On Friday March 7, we went to the Ampitheatre to shoot our introduction. But we had a problem before we started shooting. The problem was Laurie slipped and fell on the stairs. She hurt her tail bone and it was so pain that she couldn't straighten her back. No choice, we decided to shoot the introduction on next monday. After that, we went to the 2D Lab to continue with our editing....

On Thursday March 6, we started to shoot the introduction of the video. Our time for shooting was quite short because in the morning Hanis had class, so we can't shoot in the morning. In the afternoon, i had class at 3. Hence, we only had about three hours to do our shooting. We went to the design ramp to shoot.
We done a lot of retakes of the introduction like we all running towards the camera, but the results was not good at all. So we decided to change the venue for shooting of the introduction. The venue we chose was the Ampitheatre. After that, i went to class and the rest of them went to the 2D Lab.

Starting of editing Day 20-22
From Monday March 3 to Wednesday March 5, was our editing days. We started doing editing for the content and adding effects inside the content. For the next few days, we continued with our editing and had discussion on the remaining shoots. The remaining shoots were our introduction and ending.
Shooting again Day 19
On Thursday February 28, the whole group except Hanis went to Boat Quay again to shoot Betty's interview. We all went to the mac at Raffles Place again to have our breakfast and to wait for Hanis to come after her class. Betty then informed Hanis that Yi Jie can't come to school early to help shifted back the chairs and tables to the cafe, so Hanis had to do it. Betty also asked her to go level 5 Studio to get the clay works from Zaihan. Around 11 plus in the morning, Hanis met up with us at the Boat Quay.
When she reached there, she looked so tired. She told us that she shifted the table and chairs back to the cafe alone. I felt quite bad that she had to do this job herself as the distance from the TV Studio to the cafe is long. But no choice, i can't help her at that time.
After the shooting, all of us except Betty went to the Minds' Cafe at Boat Quay for lunch and played games. Around four plus, we all went to the Stamford House again to shoot my interview. The shooting was quite fast and we ended the day early.....

Shooting at TV Studio Day 18
On Wednesday February 27, was the day to shoot the interview for Video Fundamentals. The person being interviewed was Sholleh. On that day, we went to the TV Studio early to set up the place for the video scene later. We went to the Bistro Cafe to borrow the table and chairs. The rest of us went to prepare the things ready like cutting up the table cloth to fit the table.
Around five plus, we went to buy the food for the dinner scene. Our idea of backdrop for Video Funamentals was to have a romantic dinner scene at the back while Sholleh being interviewed at the front. The cast for the dinner scene was Caleb and Lydia. Before the shooting starts, we get all the things ready like the lightings, props and other things. The shooting went quite smoothly and the day ends....
Shooting at 2D Animation Lab Day 17
On Tuesday February 26, was the day to shoot the interview for Animation Fundamentals module. The person being interviewed was Laurie. Before the shooting, we met a problem. Initially, our idea of backdrop for this module was Laurie sitting in front of the screen while the screen potrays the animation works of our animation seniors.
But when Sholleh saw the animaton collage, he thought that the animation collage was not colourful and fast enough. Laurie, Hanis and Sholleh had an argument for this matter. But we managed to solve this problem in the end. I told Hanis that we could used back our initial idea to shoot at the 2D Lab with drawings placed on the lightboxes. Then, she thought of using the initial idea and have Laurie's drawings pinned at the wall as the backdrop.
Around 6 plus, we went to the 2D Lab to do our shooting. Everythings went smoothly, we had a short debrief and planned for the next day shooting.

On Monday February 25, all of us brought the things we need for the video scene on Wednesday. Hanis brought a few white candles and an antique candle holder. Laurie brought an empty wine glass bottle. I myself got to bring 3 stalks of roses. But i will bring it on the day itself so that the roses can be in the best condition for the shooting....

On Sunday February 24, we met up in the Boat Quay MacDonald first to discuss about the storyboard then continued with the shooting. But then on that day, the lightings was not good and there was haze. So we cancelled the shooting but just do discussions, briefing and re-editing our storyboards in the mac. We also came up with our production name called "Three:Eighteen" . There is logo for our production name and transition effects for the logo.
After the discussion, we decided to bring our props for the tv studio video fund scene on Monday to make sure that the sets is alright and well prepared. That's the end.

Hanis had to go get the camera from her friend first, then meet up with us. We went to the Boat Quay MacDonald for breakfast and Hanis meet us at there. After the meal, we went to do the shooting. On Thursday February 21, we didn't had any shootings but just had discussions and briefing on the previous shootings and the upcoming shootings. Around 6 pm, we all went to the 2D lab to upload our video footages and saved it in Laurie's hard drive.
We also decided to use a DSLR camera for the photography module shooting the next day. So Hanis called his friend Noel to ask for his camera and had to collect it in the next morning.

Shooting at Stamford House Day 14
4 more posts to go....On Wednesday Fabruary 20, was the day to shoot the interview for the Drawing Essentials module. The person being interviewed was me. We went there in the afternoon to do preparation before the shooting. We displayed clay works that we brought from the school on the shelves and i practiced my script with Laurie. After that, we shot Mrs Glenn sketching a potrait of me in different mediums like pencils and pastels. During the sketching, my eyes were in pain that i had to take breaks to let my eyes rest. We then started shooting my interview. During the shooting, we encountered some problems like had a shortage of tapes and others. But we managed to solve the problems at the end.
After the shooting, we took video of us setting up the scene like help to arrange the chairs for the life drawings later and also removing our clay works on the shelfs and placed back the original items.
In the evening, Laurie and Hanis went back to the studio again to shoot the life drawings. When everything ends, we sat down to have a short briefing on the shooting and we all went back home.....
Shooting at Mac Lab Day 13
5 more posts to go ....On Tuesday February 19, was the day to shoot the interview for the Digital Media Fundamentals module. The person being interviewed was Hanis. When we reached the Mac Lab, we first arranged the chairs and computers nicely before the shooting. Hanis displayed a few of her DM Fund works on the computer screen while the others work at the back. We were all assigned to different roles. Sholleh shot the interview, Betty took photographs of the interview, Laurie and i act as students using the computers in the lab. We do take turns to do different roles during the video shooting. Hanis answered the questions that we had already planned out for the interview and we retake her interview for a few times because there were some problems like her voice was not loud enough.
In between the shooting, we had breaks and 4 of us except Laurie played with the photo booth. We made crazy expressions, did funny poses and other stuffs. Laurie stood at one corner and laughed at us loudly. After the break, we continued with the shooting and managed to finish it. We had a short briefing on the shooting. Betty, Sholleh and me stayed back to discuss about what i going to wear for my shooting on the next day.....

On Monday February 18, was our first day of shooting in production week. We met up in school first and Betty called the main person in charge of the Minds Cafe and managed to get approval to have our video shot at the place. We went to the Minds cafe which was located at Dhoby Ghaut area. Along the way, we shot video of us walking on our way there and had some shots of us doing random things like singing, talking and other stuffs. When we got there, we ordered foods and played some games while waiting for the food and had video shooting of us playing as well.
We had an awesome fun loving time together at the Minds Cafe. We played many different games and one game that i remembered the most was the whacky game UglyUgly. In that game, we had to act fast and snatched similar cards before others. But i was always slower than others and got hit on my hand for a few times.
After we had played and eaten, we had a short briefing on the shooting just now and briefed on the next day shooting.....

Discussion on Valentines Day Day 10
On Thursday February 24, we had another briefing on our project again then we gathered around to discuss about some things. The things we discussed like set up the schedule for next week shootings, thought of things we needed and might considered during the shooting such as props, materials, time, lightings and other stuffs.
We came out with a list of things we needed for each backdrop. For the backdrop scene of Video Fundamentals, we had to ask our lecturers to help us book the TV Studio and searched for friends to act as the crew.
Our idea was to use a production scene being carried out at the back as the backdrop while the interview was held at the front. The scene we thought of was a romantic scene where a couple were having a candle light dinner and outside we had some actors acted as the "production crew" at the backdrop preparing for the scene while Sholleh is being interviewed at the front.

Raccee Day Day 9
On Wednesday February 13, was the day for us to raccee the places we were going to use for the interview. We met in class and wrote down the places to raccee. Some of the places were in school, so we went to raccee them again and asked Vani, one of the lecturers to help us book the Design Space. After we had finished raccee in school, we went down to canteen for lunch and went to the place outside the school to raccee. The place was near City Hall area.We went to a drawing studio in Stamford House whereby the studio allows people to do potraits, drawings and paintings. The place was meant as the backdrop for Drawing Essentials.
We raccee the place and asked the owner Mrs Glenn whether we could used the place for shooting. We also asked her was she willing to sketch a potrait of me while we are doing the interview and took some photos of the studio.
Next, we went to the Subway Station whereby the place displayed different schools students' artworks and some art exhibitions held there too.
We then went to raccee an animation company called 77star at 9 Shenton Way. Actually on the way to the company, i was quite nervous and happy about it. Before we left the school, i talked with the person in charge (A Japanese Guy) on the phone to ask were we allow to go to the company to have a look. I had this problem talking with him because his English was not good and my Jap was neither better. He asked for my name and i gave him a name which i thought was lousy after we ended the conversation. Hence along the way, Hanis and i thought of a name that suits me and easier for him to pronouce. The name we thought of was Kin.We raccee the place thought that the place was not suitable for us to use as the backdrop for Animation Fundamentals. Therefore, we decided to use the 2D Animation Lab in school as the backdrop.
The last stop we went to raccee was Boat Quay. The place was chose to use as the backdrop for photography. We went there to have a look and took some photographs too. Finally, we end our raccee day and all of us went back home.....
Planning Raccee Day 8
On Tuesday February 12, we continued to finalize our idea. We noted down places we might used as backdrops for the interview and recap on other things that we had discussed for the past few days such as the interview's questions, backdrops and contents of the video.
We decided to raccee the next day. The places were school areas and outside school areas. We also came up with 2 places as backdrops for each modules we listed.
The modules we chose were Video Fundamentals, Animation Fundamentals, Digital Media Fundamentals, Photography and Drawing Essentials.

Discussion of idea and raccee Day 7
On Monday February 11, my group and i sat down to do discussion. We always got new ideas that we cannot get things finalized. But we were all trying to improve our idea to make the video looks good....Sholleh thought of a few more ideas that day and we all came to a conclusion that our idea doesn't stands out at all. It was too common and ordinary. So all of us had more discussion and tried to finalize our idea. We also thought of places as the backdrops for our interviews.
After that, we went to raccee a few places in design school like the TV Studio, Design Gallery, Design Space, Sound Room and 2D Animation Lab.

On Wednesday February 6, is the Chinese New Year eve. My group and i except Laurie (sick cannot come) decided to have another discussion at Business School in the morning.
We tried to make things clear and improve on our current idea. After listening to what Mr Ronald said about our video, we decided to change our introduction. We went to youtube to watch a few intro videos and thought of a new idea for our introduction. We decided to do something simple and fun that could work with the concept of the animation mascots appears in the middle of the video. By doing this, there won't be a big twist between the introduction and the content. Example like the introduction is tense while the content is simple and fun. At the same time, we thought of plan B in case we were allowed to showcase our seniors' works.
This is what we discuss....

Presentation 1 Day 6
So lonely ! I sit in front of the com to do the blog with me alone. There is no one i can talk tooooo.... BUT i will still do my blog !!! HaHa....
On Tuesday February 5, was the day for presentation 1. My group was the first group to present. We present our idea to Mr Ronald and the class. During presentation, Mr Ronald asked questions about our video's introduction. The pointers he state on our group's video made us a bit confused. Few days back in class, Alan took over Mr Ronald and we present our idea to him. He thought that the idea was good but Mr Ronald doesn't think so. I think is because different people have different thinking.
When all the groups had present, Mr Ronald gave comments to the class about our ideas. The comments he gave like all of us the idea were so 'in the box'. He wanted us to think 'out of box' like we can shoot our seniors' work but not all just our work.

Lesson with Alfie Day 5
On Monday February 4, my group and i met up in the TP library's project room to do discussion. We finalized things we wanted to do in our video and discussed about the presentation 1. After that, we all went to design canteen for lunch.
We went for class after lunch but Mr Ronald did not came for lesson. He asked Alfie to look after our class. Alfie talked to our class and gave suggestions to us for our video. He also briefed us on the project 1.
Raymond, my classmate asked him a few questions about the video. He asked about the limitation of the number of minutes we have to take for our interview. Alfie told him that the 2 mins per person was like a guideline or the maximum number of minutes that we have to take for one person. Hence, we can take lesser than 2 mins if we want to.
After Alfie left the class, my group and i went to the 2D lab to use the PC to do our presentation slides and had discussion. When everything ends, all of us went to do our own stuffs and i stayed in the lab to do my blog.....

Discussion on idea during camp
Saturday February 2 was the last day of the DOTC1 (Design Orientation Training Camp 1). My group (except Laurie) and i attended the camp for two days Friday Feb 1 & Saturday Feb 2. We went to the camp because we belongs to DSC (Design Studies Club) and we are in the main committee group for the DOC (Design Orientation Camp) camp. When the camp started, we were so busy with our work that we only got to rest at the next morning which was around 4 to 5 am. When we had finished with our work, we sat down and had discussion on the idea. The main focus of our discussion were to decide what things we wanted to include in the power point slides as next week is the 'Power Point Presentation 1'. We finalized our idea and thought of what things to include in the slides.

We decided to tell Laurie to draw the mascots out which we are using it in our video. We thought of including the mascots in the slide show so that we can show it as the few examples for the video animations.

After watching the video clips, my group and i had a group discussion in our classroom. We made some changes in our idea and thought of how to do the ending for our video.

- Fast run of images/video with a few voice over in the background (eg. "I am designer")
- Include animation & video inside
- Aniamtion will be high contrast and thick line art
- Video/images will be the footage on the modules we did
- For the transition to the content, we will first introduce the five of us
- Film our hobbies/interests in fast play mode ?
- Film the five of us at TP bus stop with fast moving traffics and people
- Camera moves in fast motion to one of us, slow motion play when we are doing self- introduction in voice over form
- Self introduction is like say who am i and what my hobbies/interests (show footage of the person's hobbies/interests) ?
- After one had introduced, camera moves in fast motion to another member to do self- introduction (voice over with slow motion play when self- introduction) ?

Content
- Content of our video will be 10 minutes
- Tagline is "Different lifestyles, Same goals"
- Style/format for the interview is 2 mins for each member and not in order
- Members take turns to be interviewed
- Set aside a number of questions and in same order for every member to answer
- Include the bloopers (no cut unless needed), but cover it with a flash cut and a beep sound after the blooper before continue with the interview ?
- Cuts between members, include flash cut with the beep sound
- Video & animation will have interaction
- OCs/little mascot in quick animation frame will do actions like pulling headings/subheadings
- During interview, one can interact with the animation like the mascot made mistake on the subheadings and the person is angry

- Ending of our video will be 1 minute
- Do silhouette shots on the members ending with a "big bang"
- Freeze frame on the jumping poses

Watch different videos' footage Day 3
Ok, finally i am back to upload my blog with new post..... I suppose to do it earlier, but somehow i have no time to do it and blah blah blah....
Never mind, i can always start now... On Wednesday January 30, my class and i went to LT 25 to watch some video clips with the other two classes. All three lecturers were at the LT too. Aflie told us the purpose of gathering us here was to show us some introductions of video clips and the making of the film. He told us that we could used some of it as reference for our video. We watched a few intros and i thought that some of it were quite nice. I remembered one of the style of intros was a documentary style.
Mr Ronald and Wahida also shown us some video clips. Some of them i thought it was interesting, but some of it was damn boring that i almost dozed off.... After all the video clips had shown, the lecturers talked to us for a while and lesson ENDS !!!
That all for now...

Brainstorming on the idea Day 2
Today, Mr Ronald wanted each group leaders to present their ideas to him, Hanis told him we want to do the video in a MTV style also told him about others details of our idea. He gave us suggestions like we need to decide what kind of loop music we want to use, what is the message we want to let the audience knows and more....
After that, my group and i (except Laurie) sat in a circle and start to brainstorm on our idea. We decided to film the video a bit documentary with the interviews and film what MOI students were like behind the scene. So we thought of getting four MOI students to be the interviewers. For now, we only have Dempster and Yi Jie. The other two need to go find.

The ending part we thought of a few ideas, but we don't think it works. So we decided to keep it at the back, focus on the preparation for the interview part first.

- Show some random shots of people what they do
- show images of our MOI works
- Have voice over in the background together with the images
- The voices are like i want to be what what what (eg. i want to be a film maker)
- For the transition to the content, we will film the 4 interviewers in voice over form with them introducing themselves
- we will take video of them observing things around them while their surroundings move in fast/slow speed
- We will interview the four MOI students
- Two of them from animation, the other two from video
- For animation part, we will film the students doing works like using flash to do 2D animation
- For the video part, we will film the scenes of the students' video production
- Film what MOI students do in design school
- Film what MOI students do in their free time
- We will do the interviews in turns like video student first, then animation student
- Show interactions between animation students and video students
- We will overlap some interview shots with other shots
The ending part we thought of a few ideas, but we don't think it works. So we decided to keep it at the back, focus on the preparation for the interview part first.

Discussion of idea at JupiterCafe Day 1
Today, Alan explained to all the students of MOI what MOI Project 1 was all about and what we had to do for it. He also told us that we need to form in group of 4 to 5. After that, my classmates and i went to class and wait for Mr Ronald to start lesson. We listened to him talking about creating the blog and other stuffs. Everyone told him which group they were in and who was there group leader. For my group, the group members were Sholleh, Betty, Hanis, Laurie and me. The group leader was Hanis.
When the class ends, we all went to Jupiter Cafe to have lunch and started thinking how we want to do the video. We decided to do in a MTV style. Sholleh thought of adding a tagline inside the video and we thought of a few. But we don't think it was nice and at last we thought of one which i thought was good. Same goal, different lifestyles.
We thought of showing in the video that even though we have different backgrounds, hobbies and interests. But our goal is the same in the end. We also thought of adding some animation effects inside the video like let the character move about and more....
All this are just the basic idea we have, there may be changes....
